Heartbeat Signal

A periodic cryptographic beacon emitted by a hardware node to prove it is online and functioning, registered on-chain or to a network oracle.

Heartbeat intervals vary by protocol: Helium hotspots beacon roughly every hour, while Hivemapper dashcams upload image batches continuously when driving. The network's oracle or smart contract tallies heartbeats to compute uptime scores, which directly determine the size of the epoch reward allocated to that node.
